It's too soon to learn what has been learned. Available announcements point just to the news of the operation. But it is logical to assume that our Ukrainian friends now have masses of data on all aspects of the Russian economy, society, demography, and more, and the potential to compute accurate..

Boo! MPIDR wishes everyone a happy Halloween! Our library team is very creative and loves getting spooky. We even had some ghost sightings. They seem to love demography! Here is video proof.

“Wealth Inequality Among Families”: @ldklein.bsky.social @smaexie.bsky.social & @pmlersch.bsky.social find overall wealth inequality was stable for 1988-2017 but inequality varied by HH type; demog. change plays an important role.

Since there is no housing for younger folks in San Francisco, gay demography is currently like:
- John, 6’2” hung jock - 78 yrs old.
- Patrick, 6’0” sub twink - 86 yrs old.
- Rick, 5’9” uncut - 92 yrs old.

Good title! Demography is fundamentally about sex, death and people being where they are not supposed to be.
This means I probably will not be teaching what has been our most eugenically-titled course, but I'm still very very grateful that my colleague finally did the annoying work to change it after however many decades

Healthy human lifespan has increased by about four months for each year I have been alive, all over the developed world. (And the developed world has expanded over those years too.) That's the surprising fact I learned in a graduate seminar on demography.

Happy to co-chair the new IUSSP Panel on Digital Demography, AI & Open Science with @akbaritabar.bsky.social!

The first panel, led by Francesco Billari and @ezagheni.bsky.social, helped shape my PhD. I hope we can do the same for the next generation (or at least a tiny bit)!

I'm old enough to remember when The Coming Democratic Majority and that whole genre of crude "demography (sometimes economics) is destiny" stuff came out. Just crazy to have that be your big breakthrough, be proven completely wrong, and still have a prominent career.

Fair, I'm not sure anyone's ever asked Connie this particular question but she does endorse full right of return— often claimed to be equivalent to being against Israel's "demography".

Congrats! I really enjoy your demography posts

If we manage to address and rectify these problems even to a reasonable extent, the demography disillusioned by Trump (especially Hispanics and Asians, including Indians) can be lured by restoring their trust in functional and effective government and make them stay in coalition for liberal values

Re-prepping a grad class & I think I'm going to do a thing on publishing formal demography: have them skim initial submission, reviews, & final version of article of mine; talk about struggles w notation, organization, examples, etc

Question is: Do I pick the *really* painful review process or not?

Like a heroin addict who becomes hooked on methadone, he substituted a theological, evidence-immune faith in an Emerging Democratic Majority for one in an Emerging Republican Majority.

But Ruy's consistent in a fanatical and obsessive assumption that "Demography is Destiny," I'll give him that.

little rags of white all up and down the roadside from the great bales of cotton loaded up onto trailers these last few days. a potent reminder. for there is no easy separation of geography and economics and demography and politics and the burden of history weighs ever heavy on the present.
