#Derailleur
"Cata clys mus" serait une interjection prononcée durant l'antiquité romaine lorsque le dérailleur d'un vélo fait n'importe quoi et déloge la chaîne du pignon ou du plateau. L'assonance entre l'interjection et le phénomène mécanique aurait renforcé son adoption et sa transmission (pun intended).

I love hub gears! So convenient! Have one on my e-tandem, but the secondhand hand cycle I got has a derailleur. And a slight habit of dropping the chain during slow tight reverse/turn manoeuvres, which is annoying & I need to fix it! It’s fine when pedalling properly, just not when wiggling…

Agreed.

There are definitely trade-offs for individual circumstances. And trade-off points change over time.

Have you found that multi-speed hubs are cleaner & more reliable than derailleurs?

When I was a teen, I had a delivery bike with multi-speed hub + commuter bike with derailleur.

I decided to find out how to use post-processing on my Lumix point and shoot camera. Taken with the camera close to the derailleur, much of the rest is out of focus in a normal shot, including the front wheel. Post-processing brings it all into focus.

Realistically if I ever splash out on an expensive bike it'll probably be something more practical like a (steel, Rohloff hub-gear) light tourer

Still a real stunner of a bike. I love the little window in the rear dropouts. Also, didn't realize you had a Silver derailleur on it! I put one on the '86 Raleigh mixte I built for Valerie.

Tuesday, my 2nd day of rest...my back is almost back to normal...Might head to the grocer's...have to adjust my derailleur on my bike; my chain keeps slipping on one gear...hard to figure out. My lottery ticket didn't win; kind of in a losing streak now... Looks to be a pretty nice fall day today😛🤣

Gravel tire clearance comes with fine print. Giant's Revolt fits up to 53mm with 1x but 45mm with 2x. Cannondale's Topstone Carbon drops from 52 to 45. Run a front derailleur? Read the smaller number. Max widths as the brands state them: pedalbrief.com/guides/gravel-bike-tire-clearance

Nou, heel verhaal. Stuur verstellen was oplossing.

First time setting up a front derailleur and I only lost the chain once before I got it dialled in. I’ll call that a win.

and so it begins…

find a nice period-correct (and suitably French) Huret front derailleur to replace the broken one.

I want one of those neat backpedal two speeds with no derailleur
October 2, 2026 at 7:16 PM
I defend with: I have a one-speed with no derailleur

"In Zambia alone, ... the bikes delivered a 14.7-to-1 return on investment, placing them among the most impactful development interventions."

Rugged, 220lb-ready offroad bikes are a gamechanger in rural Africa. And they have an innovative 2-chain, 2 gear, 2 speed design.

Bike costs $174 USD.

I’m going to replace it with a Box Components “Box 2, Prime-9” 9 speed 50/11 gearset, derailleur, chain and shifter when it wears out.

In this article I will share my thoughts about the Decathlon Silicone MTB Grips, that I used on my Scott Scale 925 mountainbike in the period when I was doing upgrades Deore XT Di2 M8250 rear derailleur and Shimano Deore XT M8200 series disc brakes.

I read a think about an internal planetary gear front derailleur system that seemed insanely complicated.
October 1, 2026 at 11:13 PM
still waiting for someone to invent a centrifugal auto shifting front derailleur
October 1, 2026 at 9:44 PM
There are a lot of ways to misspell derailleur, but today I saw "delaurier" for the first time.
