I've found that if I tell people I'm #ActuallyAutistic, they get weird around me.

However, if I say things like "I have sensory issues & social anxiety," suddenly I'm more relatable.

The change in (people's attitudes) is specifically tied to the word *autism* being used.

People think the autism spectrum is like this (straight line between the binary extreme of low functioning on left and high functioning on right). But it's NOT. It's more like this: sound mixing board with decibel meter (-15 at bottom, +15 at top) bottom right corner: electro-harmonix (made in New York City, USA) Controls labeled from left to right: Nonverbal, stimming, eye contact, special interests, literal minded, fearless, sensory overload, routines, solitary, social cues Only with LOTS more sliders - each person with different settings, some locked in, some variable, especially with stress. "Low functioning" and "high functioning" labels are actually pretty hurtful, and an incorrect way of looking at autism. Remember the Graphic Equalizer Spectrum. What are YOUR settings today?
