In this oil painting, three women stand behind the figure of a sleeping bearded man with dark curly hair, whose head and shoulders are visible at the bottom of the canvas. The young woman at the center holds up a lock of the man’s hair in her left hand, and a pair of scissors in her upheld right hand. The young woman to her right holds her right arm out in a gesture of warning and holds her left fingers to her lips to signal the need for silence. The woman to the viewer’s right is older, and wears a head covering; only her face and left palm, upheld in alarm or glee, are visible. At the bottom of the painting, to the viewer’s left, a lute sits face up on a table.

An oil painting depicting a young white-skinned woman with flowers in her hair, holding in front of her a platter containing a human head. Next to her, at the right edge of the painting, stands a shirtless dark-haired, white-skinned man, turning away from the viewer but looking back over his left shoulder. He appears to be holding a sword, only a portion of which is visible, in his left hand. On the woman's other side, in the distance is the face of a pensive-looking older man with his head covered, holding one hand against his white beard.
