Seems like Bluesky did something weird with this vid - it was shot using digiscope and looks less terrible on my phone than this 🤷

That rig took this photo of a California Towhee!
This digiscope rig has some severe limitations, as the multiple layers of glass aren’t meant to sharply transmit light
I mean you’re not beating the photography from a real telephoto lens, but who woulda thought I could manage this with a Leica? 📷🔭🪶

A fascinating feeding strategy/observation yesterday. This male LSW was systematically removing Wood Ants from the top of an Oak tree in order to get to the aphids they were presumably protecting. Bsky video rendering doesn’t quite do it justice. @lesserspotnet.bsky.social #digiscope #birdsuk
