The excerpt on the DigitalFire site reads as if Plainsman Clay issued a takedown notice on DigitalFire, hence their IP claim. Tony, who runs DF, doesn’t know how to comply without shutting the entire site down due to its complexity.

Their original post about it talked about them making a “laboratory information management system” and personally to me, that screams “paid subscription for information on DigitalFire.” They claimed they just want their IP and domains, but also say they never owned DigitalFire. Doesn’t make sense.

Digitalfire, the Wikipedia of ceramics, is going offline this month as a result Plainsman, a clay company, wanting to create a paid version of it.
I don't know anyone using their products, but it's time to stop if you do.

The pottery community is going through some rough times lately. Diamond Core is under MAGA management and now Plainsman Clay is pulling some crap which will cause DigitalFire to shutdown completely. Recent Instagram post seems to be trying to gaslight or backtrack, but they’re already in the mud.

The Insight-Live system has the information in it as well, but is subscription based, and more challenging (for me) to search.
I wish I could just... download DigitalFire, but it's huge.

He is truly a gift to all who clay ! I use his 1216L recipe & have used digitalfire heavily as a resource for a while! It’s wonderful 🤩

I’ve taken all of CMW’s classes, and get nose deep in Glazy and Digitalfire. I get teased because I “study” glaze chemistry daily. It’s fun for me.

Digital Fire+Glazy form the core of my glaze resources. Losing DigitalFire would be like losing Wikipedia.
It's an invaluable subject encyclopaedia for ceramics. Given how much AI slop is all over, loosing an actually reliable useful resource created over decades is tragic.
2026 sucks so much.

The DigitalFire debacle is especially concerning because there’s very little transparency from Plainsman Clay about it and the amount of free information it offers for potters is extremely valuable. PC keeps saying they don’t want the site to shutdown, but won’t explain why it would when asked.

Started my 2nd glaze chemistry course, and just did the 1st lab to test my glaze at different silica and alumina levels (mapped on a Stull chart below). I'm going to do a 2nd test like this at a slightly different part of the chart just to see what happens. This stuff is so fascinating, y'all.
