Astronomers running to arxiv to read up on dimethylsulfide.

Everybody needs to calm their tits about the purported detection of dimethylsulfide at K2-18b. 1) It could very well be a statistical bias or artifact, and 2) it's not a definitive biosignature in any case. There's dimethylsulfide on Mars and in comets too, but no one thinks that's proof of life.

Everybody needs to calm their tits about the purported detection of dimethylsulfide at K2-18b. 1) It could very well be a statistical bias or artifact, and 2) it's not a definitive biosignature in any case. There's dimethylsulfide on Mars and in comets too, but no one thinks that's proof of life.

I love the smell of dimethylsulfide on St Patrick’s day.
The complex with undergoing an oxygen atom transfer reaction, converting DMSO to dimethylsulfide. I took the NMR sample out of the glove box and smelled it, sampling the delightful (to me at the time) smell of rotten eggs from the dimethyl sulfide.

En verder worden doorgaans andere zwavelverbindingen toegevoegd aan methaan om eventuele lekken detecteerbaar te maken. Methaanthiol volgens mij, maar misschien was het dimethylsulfide.
