This is fabulous news for #histmed, too. Among the treasures is VossLatQ1, begun in the early 11thC in Beneventan & completed in Caroline near the end of the century. The annotations are to die for, b/c they capture the creation of the Dioscorides alphabeticus. This is where the scripts change.

A paragraph from a forthcoming study describing the Leiden, Universiteitsbibliotheek, VLQ 1: "The earliest form of the Dioscorides alphabeticus appears in Leiden, Universiteitsbibliotheek, VLQ 1. This is a most unusual manuscript for several reasons. First, the opening thirteen leaves were actually written in the early eleventh century, in Beneventan, long before Constantine or Desiderius or Alfanus were around to conceive of a major medical editing project. This initial campaign broke off while still in the letter “A” and the manuscript seems to have been left untouched for years. Then, a whole new campaign of writing started, progressing to the letter “F”; the text was never completed in this particular copy, but obviously it was soon available as we find the full text, A-Z, in manuscripts of the early twelfth century. This new work contains three types of interventions. In addition to imposition of (1) alphabetization by substance name, there are (2) divergent readings added from other translations of Dioscorides, and (3) material from other texts entirely, like the Alphabetum Galeni, a late antique text that was already preserved at Montecassino in the important tenth-century collection, Montecassino, Archivio dell’Abbazia, cod. Casin. 97, and Gargilius Martialis, Medicinae ex oleribus et pomis. Gargilius is also the source for many of the names of classical authors who appear in the text: Hippocrates, Chrysippus, Pythagorus, Cato, Galen, and even Dioscorides (who is cited multiple times within the text). Also heavily used was the Euporista ad Eunapium of Oribasius."

The earliest written record of lavender’s medicinal properties is by the Greek Physician, Dioscorides, in 77AD. Dioscordes recorded that #lavender relieved indigestion, headaches, sore throats, & was a useful antiseptic for wounds and burns 💜

Plinio, en su Historia Natural, describía las propiedades beneficiosas de estos hilos.El médico griego Dioscórides también lo menciona, ya en el siglo I; y en el Satiricón de Petronio. Además de para heridas las usaban para tratar lesiones cutáneas y verrugas.
