#Disaster-Responsive
Gutting FEMA won’t make it more responsive, just like getting rid of it won’t make disaster response better. It lets communities fend for themselves in their darkest hour.

That’s not reform. That’s abandonment.

In a normal government (responsive to a normal democratic feedback loop), the Trump FAA rolling disaster would have already resulted in multiple high-level resignations.

First because it's fucking papering over history.

And secondly asking your legislators to be responsive to its constituents on things that government is responsible for like education and disaster relief is democracy

If only they'd included the Homewood branch. An unmitigated disaster of a post office: long lines, packages routinely lost/misdelivered, zero responsive to complaints.

today's DOGE IS FOUR LETTERS is a really thoughtful conversation with a social scientist at FEMA about why they do the work, what's important about it, and what pulling all this damage may mean in the future for disaster preparedness.
Disaster Response is Democracy
We are losing our ability to build a responsive, smart, and nimble government that can meet the challenges of today, much less those of tomorrow.

😡 Biden had response teams ahead of the disaster and he had 17% more staff and 30% more funding. His "setup" was more prepared and responsive than you now have it!

Fascinating thing - to me as an organisational nerd - about my dealings with UPS is that their call centre has been great and incredibly responsive. It's just that the core USP of 'delivering an object from Tamworth to central London' has been a disaster.

Chef Jose Andres had already set up operations in the Ferrari garage before Charles even got there. The man is more responsive to the Ferrari disaster than their engineers

This GOP BULLSHIT will immediately create a paperwork disaster that will disenfranchise MILLIONS.

Can you lay your hands on ALL of the required documentation?

How long will it take to obtain official copies from a non-responsive GOP controlled government?

there needs to be a disaster movie where the government is benevolent, competent and responsive and their response is undermined by slackjawed militias who think the government is behind the disaster

I hope you can persist somehow in the face of Dump’s cruelty, revenge against his perceived enemies, and probable devastation of FEMA so immediately responsive under Pete Buttigieg after every disaster 🙏😄
I just secured a commitment from major mortgage lenders to offer a 90-day grace period on mortgage payments for their customers impacted by the LA firestorm.

Devastated residents should be able to concentrate on their immediate needs, not worry about paying these bills.

REDFIN: “.. This year marked the first time since 2010 that low-risk homes across three major climate categories—heat, fire and flood—gained value faster than high-risk homes. That may be a sign Americans are growing more responsive to natural disasters.”

I see what you mean. I'm seeing a lot of people behaving like those experiencing disaster are being foolish, so it read that way to me. We obviously need more responsive infrastructure

American federalism is often touted as a source of local democratic engagement, political innovation, and responsive public policy.

But in practice, it has served as a laboratory of autocracy and inequality.

Middle size nations are more responsive to voters and pose less of a threat if they are overrun by a fascist, a more compartmentalized disaster.

The USA, a large country, is a threat to the world as we exist today.

The Trump Administration’s attack on weather reporting agencies and natural disaster response should concern all of us.

Without support from the federal government, our communities will now be less resilient and less responsive to deadly and catastrophic weather events.
