I went back to my “friend” who reached out about the issue and told them it was a scam. Suddenly all their messages started disappearing and they unfriended me. I have since then blocked and removed them from my server. linked is a twitter thread that shows more of this scam

Researchers at Silent Push successfully exposed a suspected North Korean IT worker actively scouring Discord to recruit foreigners. The objective was to orchestrate fraudulent job interviews and secure remote employment using stolen identities. The operator offered intermediaries a highly lucrative proposition: impersonate the candidate during interviews, funnel the salary into their personal account, retain a 35% commission, and transfer the remaining 65% to the scheme's mastermind.

a mod on a zine they contributed to that concluded almost a year ago now. as always, DO NOT OPEN ANY STRANGE OR SUSPICIOUS-LOOKING ATTACHMENTS, ESPECIALLY FROM PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW WELL. this is the first time i've seen a #discordscam like this with zero text trying to TELL me about the scam tho.

Even with a password manager (Kaspersky) generated 16 character password including special characters and numbers. I haven't downloaded any new apps recently, on my phone or laptop. And I have login notifications enabled for everything.
