The Crunchy Moms group isn’t an information problem. It’s a social problem (a problem of people forming associations, and what activities they do as a group) with an info component (they engage in harmful information behaviors like sharing make-believe, and group discoverability and recruitment).

And I don't mean this in terms of some kind of AI ban, literally just as a way of trying to keep shovelware out of discoverability channels.

If I can get a little stern for a second: since August of last year all of my paid adult-content projects have been delisted from Itch discoverability. This tanked my income on the platform. It does not make me feel good to now see AI slop becoming the dominant content on Itch after being told how->

it doesn't make sense for platforms that accept (almost) all entries (itch, steam, bandcamp) to also be a platform for curation and discoverability. its a completely separate task, only aided by direct access to the API (made moot by having a public API). people gotta write about games again

Helen Pollitt believes that instead of thinking about SEO versus GEO, you should focus on applying organic discoverability skills across every relevant channel and using AI to sharpen and enhance them.

"Nobody really uses itch's discoverability" is both true and also an indictment of a platform that's been around in its recognizable form since 2015, it's actually one of the reasons why it isn't simply an unequivocal better choice than DTRPG, which HAS better discoverability and other QoL features

AI didn't create the discoverability problem. It only exposes how poorly platforms handle curation. I think it is a bad sign if one of the most prominent indie platforms is self-pity posting about democratized game creation. Your policies should already exclude slop regardless of production methods.
The number of game pages being created per-day has doubled in the past 2 months

Well, I'm off to my Discord privacy settings right now, as I hear that it's possible to toggle off discoverability.
Now, at least....
Discord is rolling out their plan to make content in public ["discoverable"] servers accessible from the wider web - aka. someone could find your public messages from that server directly on google.
Also this will make scraping theses servers for data a lot easier and more common.
What to do:
Making Content from Discoverable Servers Easier to Discover
Starting on November 16, 2026, conversations in Discoverable Servers will be easier to find for people searching the web. Admins can choose which channels are surfaced on the web. Private servers, DMs...

Lower discoverability -> discouraged devs -> fewer real games -> lower revenue -> less ability to pay for the needs of the platform, all as costs increase due to invasion of bots and slop.

Finally pulled all Huldra House titles off D2D (turns out there's a mass delisting option). And between genAI slop uploads/discoverability news out of Itchio, and watching evergreen cycles of abusive publishing play out, this time with Atthis Arts, it's hard not to feel depressed about the field. ->
