seeing civilians talk about boycotting #airbnb NOW when I have been banned for life since 2016.. I was going on holiday with my partner so I opened an account for the first time, got a character reference from a friend who was a frequent user and booked a place. Two days before our trip, Airbnb sent me an email saying I'm banned for life without explanation. Many articles have been published since explaining how Airbnb developed a tool to detect "unwanted" guests, such as #SexWorkers "Worldwide lodging app Airbnb now owns an AI technology that allows them to discriminate against people in certain categories, specifically including sex workers, based on unrelated social media posts and other online data. The name of the technology on its patent is “Determining Trustworthiness and Compatibility of a Person” and it stigmatizes sex work and “involvement in pornography” by grouping them with drug use, membership in hate groups, “neuroticism” and “narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy.” The AI technology aims to profile and predict behavior in individuals based on past actions, statements or career." https://www.xbiz.com/news/249406/airbnb-admits-ownership-of-ai-technology-that-targets-sex-workers-others Other articles reporting on this: 2016: https://www.vice.com/en/article/why-its-perfectly-legal-for-airbnb-to-discriminate-against-sex-workers/ 2018: https://www.thedailybeast.com/airbnbs-war-on-porn-stars-they-locked-me-out/?ref=author 2020: https://www.vice.com/en/article/airbnb-has-secret-trustworthy-scores-and-this-privacy-group-is-demanding-to-see-them/ 2022: https://www.thenation.com/article/society/airbnb-banning-sex-workers/
