#Dislabled
3/27: As a trans person who also has disabilities ("dislabled" in the immortal words of Mouth Magazine) I actually fought for accessible bathrooms in the 1990s when this was a big deal and the movement was relatively young.

27/27: So fight against Badenough's bullshit trying to force trans ppl into accessible WCs. It's horrifyingly wrong, But trans or not, dislabled or not, if you have reason to need an accessible WC, come on in.

Honor crip history: remember we fought for you, too.

10/27: That's a betrayal of the spirit of mutual care which motivated dislabled activists and achieved so much good - foreseen and unforeseen - over the past 50 years. Refusing to use an accessible WC when you have reason risks treating accessibility and thus disability like cooties.

This is reinforced by other portions of their statement -- not least when they remind their readers that trans ppl often have dis/abilties and dislabled folks are often trans.

Reading this as crips wanting to shut the door on trans folks makes no sense.

(Let's not address the ADA just now. It was a weird coalition that passed that. It doesn't seem to be to have ever been a Dem priority. Instead it seems more like some really successful pressure politics by dislabled activists.)

I normally avoid reposting myself, but with a mainstream culture believing that the history of dislabled persons' contributions to the world begin and end with with Helen Keller, I'm asking all 1.6k ppl who follow me to take a few moments to read this thread.

It's long for BSky, but not long.
1/27:

Katy is obviously an ally and this is not meant to criticize her, but I do want to add things to the discussion.

First a couple quick points:
1: Kemi Badenoch (hereinafter "Badenough") is evil.

2: Better name is "accessible toilets". No one gives the toilets insulin or anything.
I won't use disabled toilets because I'm not disabled and disabled people need them

Also trans people are so dangerous that they can't be around cis people... unless those cis people are disabled then it's fine? It's pretty clear they just see both trans and disabled people as a class of non human

7/x:

In fact, they OPPOSED the OPPOSITION to stigma. This was the late 90s, before I'd ever heard the current use of the "pick me!" phrase, but this was the most "pick me" group of dislabled folks I have ever had the misfortune to see.

The experience of moving while dislabled:

1:57 "I think I'll pack a box."
2:29 "Okay, I'll move the box near the door."
2:30 "Oh god. I think I'll lie down until my helpers get here."

You may not be aware of the fact that "need" is a way to police the boundaries of dislabled existence. Maybe you just don't think about disability often. And if so, well, you're a lucky duck.

But I know that you don't seriously hold to the "need" standard for yourselves.

In any case, the lege got an earful, and though it passed one house, it either failed in the other or got vetoed by the governor. The point isn't that they managed to criminalize dislabled porn actors and the personal porn or older sex fiends and ppl w disabilities; it's that they wanted to.

If it's not too much work, it might be even better to make 2 versions, one with someone crashing a motorized wheelchair through the bars.

IDK if YK, but Trump has said a lot of brutal things about letting dislabled folks die bc we're "expensive". Let COVID burn through, etc. It's bad.
