They Broke It— Now They Want Credit For The Fix— It’s Just What Trump Always Does Gas is $4.10 a gallon and just a year ago it was $3.13 (average price) The Old Goat says that is not inflation, that's not "the global market" but instead that's the price of a war this administration chose to start, and the goat is quite certain it wasn’t about Nuclear weapons. Reuters said it very plainly: prices spiked because of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. Period… Now Trump already told you how he feels about it at a rally last week, his exact words: paying "a tiny little bit more for your gasoline" was worth it to stop Iran going nuclear. Suck it up, in other words. Sacrifice for the cause. His cause— not mine and not yours. Except the polls started moving, and suddenly sacrifice has an expiration date somewhere right around the middle of November, midterms. So here's what actually happened: Energy Secretary Chris Wright flew to Midland, huddled with a room full of refinery executives nobody's has named, and promised reporters Washington would move fast to help them out. Note who the ‘them’ we are talking about here. Three days later, right on schedule, the EPA quietly killed a decades-old clean-air rule two weeks early letting refiners sell the dirtier, high-evaporation summer gasoline blend right through the smoggiest weeks of the year, in Texas, Arizona, and California specifically. Here's the part they're hoping you don't clock: those refiners weren't struggling. The very same reporting notes they were already running at full tilt, banking fat margins off the high prices themselves. So the industry getting the regulatory favor is the industry that's been cashing in on your $4.10 gallon the whole time. So… you’ll an actually pay for this twice. Once at the pump, which was never really the point, this was always about the calendar, not your wallet.
