Two new additions! A K-Line DMIR Hopper, and a Lionel DMIR Bay-Window caboose. The side lanterns work on the caboose too! #modeltrains #0scale

It's first-gen six-axle DMIR power night on the layout. Alco RSD-15 and a pair of EMD SD-9s.

They're just the largest* by wheel arrangement.

*Not the heaviest, not the most advanced, nor the most powerful.

Heaviest is the DMIR Yellowstone
Powerful is Allegheny
Most advanced is LD Portas 2-10-4s in Argentina

An addendum to this thread, I found another Mallet photo. In the 40s the DMIR acquired locos that where smaller yet more powerful for Proctor Hill service. But to give the Mallets* new roles they needed more range, so DMIR added tank cars to supplement the tiny tenders. flic.kr/p/NGsmEV

Giving blogging a try, so I can ramble without character limits. I plan to mostly cover model railroading adjacent topics on it, especially tracking projects I'm working on. I started out with a post covering a fun idea I've had for a while: an alt-history electrified Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range.
An Alt-History Concept: The Electrified DMIR
DMIR Class ERS-1 #142, a GE E33 (EL-C), in it's as-delivered maroon and yellow scheme. Thank you to Will at willstrainart for the E33. https...

And yes, remarkably, those are old DMIR ore jennies, still in service in 2026. Car #49343 will celebrate its 78th birthday this month! And this is one of the last places to see cars in revenue service with ACI tags, since we are almost 50 years past the 1977 abandonment of the system.

In the 10 years Amtrak provided service from the Twin Cities* to the Twin Ports they ran a ridiculous variety of equipment, and my favorite is probably this 5/9/77 consist featuring am Amtrak E9, DMIR SD9 #129, a B&O baggage lounge, 2 coaches, and 2 domes.

The Supersized Swither! This beast is one cool engine. Even better, one is preserved and on public display; painted and lettered for Union RR on one side, and DMIR on the other!

I had this K-line crane as a kid. It was sold used with no box from my local hobby shop. I just got the matching tender last year.

My only regret is it’s DMIR and not the WM pair they made.

2.) ... speaking of DMIR 227, I'd also buy HO scale & O gauge replicas of the DMIR Yellowstones

I'm not usually a "big fuckoff steam engine" man but the Yellowstone is my one big exception

Then maybe DMIR modelers would finally be able to get enough ore cars to run more than one train.

And it's me, so of course I took lots of photos of trains, from the tiny Iowa Interurban to the massive class 1s. Plus "DMIR" and "Illinois Central" (thanks CN).
