#DollTrilogy
#RedStitch #DollTrilogy Summer of the Seventeeth Doll. Ray Lawler’s 1955 play changed Australian theatre so has baggage. It’s exhausting, particularly in context: things fall apart & it’s evident that there is not even a centre that could hold: hope & dreams dashed on the rocks of cynicism & reality

#RedStitch #DollTrilogy Other Times. Set in 1945, Ray Lawler’s 1976 second prequel to his 1955 Summer of the Seventeenth Doll is like a bucket of cold water: all the blood has drained from the characters’ faces and the end-of-war is shown as a time of intense trouble and loss. Exemplary as before.

#RedStitch #DollTrilogy Kids Stuff. Ray Lawler’s 1975 prequel to Summer of the 17th Doll in a superb production with wonderful performances. A domestic drama with a 1937 Depression background driving individuals’ decisions. Exciting start to a day-long marathon but a fantastic stand-alone play too.

The church out the front of #RedStitch (here for a day of their glorious #DollTrilogy). I was hoping would be open, but no. All Saints #StKilda, Nathaniel Billing 1857-68, Frederick Wyatt 1873-91 (French-influenced, supervised by Terry & Oakden after Wyatt’s death in 1878).
