William Doriani's first painting came to him in a dream, and he woke up and painted it. Just like Jasper Johns! Doriani was one of many self-taught artists Sidney Janis collected in the 1930s, before he became a dealer. Janis left Doriani's Flag Day (1935) to MoMA in 1967. greg.org/archive/2026...
