Es gab einmal eine baltendeutsche Oberschicht. Riga und Dorpat waren alte "deutsche" Universitätsstätte. Wäre schön wenn das heute auf Augenhöhe und mit Respekt vor den Litauern nochmals gedeihen könnte. Profitieren würden beide Seiten. Es gibt nur ein Europa. Das welches wir formen.

When democracy dies. Magnus Zeller’s “Puff Dorpat” (1923). Popular during the Weimar Republic, Zeller was declared a degenerate artist when the Nazis took power. Some of his paintings were destroyed, others confiscated and Zeller was prohibited from buying art materials.

I had the good fortune to meet him back when I was the “Seattle History Examiner,” working on the U District Museum Without Walls, and writing my book. He encouraged my love of writing about history. I will forever be grateful.
