His ex-wife described a history of threatening behaviour, though she initially did not fully report earlier incidents, believing they were indirect or not serious. During sentencing in April, the Crown sought probation, treatment programming, and other conditions, citing concerns about a lack of remorse or insight. The judge ultimately issued a conditional discharge with 12 months of probation but did not impose several recommended conditions. The judge acknowledged the seriousness of the written threat but indicated uncertainty about whether it represented an intention to carry out physical harm. Following the deaths, police have expressed support for the family while noting that forensic examinations are still ongoing. Authorities have not released the names of the children, respecting the mother’s privacy. Officials also encouraged the public to seek support if affected by intimate partner violence or emotional distress, highlighting available crisis resources across Canada.
