Look, I've loved Tolkien's stories since age 13, but I skip the songs now.

I'll be a bit of a contrarian here and say it's okay if people skim parts of books. People can read their books however they please. Likewise, I think it's okay if people listen to individual songs rather a whole album from beginning to end.
