If a helicopter descends through its own downwash, it can enter a Vortex Ring State that dramatically reduces lift.
The solution is the Vuichard Maneuver that allows the helicopter to 'sidestep' its downwash and shift its rotor into undisturbed air.

New aero on the Honda. Massive downwash duct to help with ground effect, which really improves turning. They've had to change the top wing to make room for it, it now extends back instead of down.

My Gaslands helicopter proxy quad-jet-car thingy, based on a 007 Lotus Esprit. I used a clear resin cast based on some fancy dress horns to create the impression of jet downwash for the stand and try to give the impression of a bit of movement.

The mirror 'bodywork' rules, create a lot of opportunity for boosting aero performance.
The carbon fibre mirror housing is barely connected to the two mountings.
Those mountings are creating downwash along the sidepod tops and outwash with the pod, vertical mount & fins.
