#SirFrancisDrake landed at #DrakesBay and claimed #California for England on #ThisDayInHistory in 1579, naming it #NovaAlbion. Interesting he didn't ask the #Indigenous people living there, eh? The #privateer (*cough* #pirate *cough*) was too busy robbing Spanish ships, I guess.
