Three illustations by Gai Qi poet & painter from #DreamoftheRedChamber 18th century Chinese epic classic by Cao Xueqin. Must find a translation as almost finished #TaleofGenji. Wept when he died somewhere near page 800. 😢 The shining prince left the story & it just isn't as exciting any more.

The exciting conclusion to Yuanyang’s heroic proto-feminist refusal! Big scissors are wielded. The truth is revealed, and the stakes are nothing short of life, death, and hair most lustrous.

On its way from Kennys Bookshop, #DreamoftheRedChamber 1,606 pages! I'll be in olde China for months. Epic intergenerational story of a noble family's women (with poetry). First encountered the book in the imperial library in Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul. In my hanbok at a desk, perusing tomes. 😍

POV: Transforming into the most poetic tragic heroine in Chinese literature - Lin Daiyu. 🌸📖She is fragile like a flower, but her soul is strong. Rate this Hanfu transformation from 1-10! 👇

Shall we start this week? Reading
#紅樓夢 #Hongloumeng aka #DreamOfTheRedChamber aka #StoryoftheStone together?

A springtime endeavor. Let’s read it in a season.

But first, a hashtag poll:

I dream of using these pics as an inspiring source for a movie version of the great XVIIIth classic Chinese novel “The Story of the Stone” (石頭記) aka: “The Dream of the Red chamber” (紅樓夢).
