The word vernacular comes to mind. A Roman tomb, composed of 18 tiles, 7ft. 6in. long, discovered in 1833, near Dringhouses, on the road to Tadcaster. If was formed of roof-idles (tegula) and ridge-tiles (imbrices), which bear the impress of the sixth legion.

A great map, the main feature being #York Racecourse, but the local history (detailed by Alan Godfrey) is amazing; from one of the oldest homes in the UK to the death of Dick Turpin & the first registered nurse!

York: Middlethorpe & Dringhouses 1907.

A busy map; home of a legendary racecourse, a link to what may be called the forgotten battle of 1066, connections to the recent history of nursing, & later a home to that #York staple; Chocolate! Terry’s chocolate factory would be built on plots 681 & 682.
