6/6 I also suspect there may have been some foot-dragging from the Russian navy implementing this new practice. Navies are famously conservative about their traditions. That is possibly why a respected Russian navy-watcher like Droxford Maritime finds it unusual.

I’ve found a grave of a sergeant, 5th Dragoon Guards (no relation) in our local village churchyard in Hampshire. Baklava veteran, 3 clasps on the Crimea medal. Went on to be drill instructor of the Droxford Light Horse (yeomanry)
Just has to have his story written
