Good example of failed convective initiation along the dryline, likely due to somewhat of a cap. Can also see the dryline retreat towards the west this evening as mixing gradually ceases and the boundary layer begins to decouple.

Severe thunderstorms and supercells fire in unison along a dryline this afternoon.
The first storm of the day didn’t look very promising. Fortunately there was another one forming along the dryline so we gave it a go. Soon after things got interesting with some structure and nice bolts.

If I were Governor of Oklahoma, we'd create a tower cam network. Sort of like traffic cameras, but every radio tower in Western Oklahoma would have cameras for monitoring the dryline/weather. Oh, and I'd fire the dumbass state superintendent and hang from the Oklahoma State Capitol Dome by his nuts.

Tuesday's severe threat could stretch from the Plains dryline all the way into the Great Lakes. Supercells with tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds are all possible. Models still disagree on how fast the trough ejects, which will determine where the biggest storms end up.

For several reasons, I decided against chasing today, but my (admittedly half-assed) forecast was that something would go in the TX/OK panhandle or southwest KS given the jet nosing out over the dryline. Obviously, that didn't happen.

Expecting to see a few photogenic tornadoes today near the surface low/dryline intersection in Kansas/Nebraska as well.

I grew up in a town in western Oklahoma, where the dryline commonly sets up, that didn't have tornado sirens until the 90s. How did we survive? Emergency management (then called "Civil Defense") used telephones to call nursing homes, hospitals and public places and police cars with loudspeakers.
