I never buy drink in airports or abroad. I've only been to two whisky tastings. Glengoyne up in Drymen and the Oban distillery. Enjoyable apart from the snobs swirling and smelling it. Get it down ye ffs😂😂

Drymen History Society will resume its meetings this month for the 2026/27 season. The society’s programme kicks off on Thursday September 24 with Scotland: the global history, 1603 to the present, when Professor Murray Pittock will consider Scotland’s global reach. Part of the School of Critical Studies at the University of Glasgow, Professor Pittock was Scotland's Knowledge Exchange Champion of the year in 2022, and is a senior member of the Queen's Anniversary Prize winning Centre for Robert Burns Studies team.

I did not know the story behind its name. Great views across the Clyde.That path is great - can get from my house to Loch Lomond spending less than 5 minutes on any road, and to Drymen by adding a few lanes. Wondering if it was the railway line that went up to Aberfoyle, it’s a shame that is gone!

There is a golf course there now! I know because it’s on my sneaky gravel bike route between Balloch and Drymen - you go over a decrepit iron bridge over Endrick Water to get to the Castle. Lots of rhododendrons round there. Would also like to know what cheek would have lead to the sacking!

100 years Grandpa was a gardener at Buchanan Castle near Drymen. The owner, the Duke of Montrose, (who had been Lord High Commissioner [the King's representative] to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland) sacked him for cheek. I always thought about Grandpa when I attended the Assembly
