👺tsla uses cast aluminum, much weaker than wrought aluminum due to porosity, results from gas entrapment during casting, with coarser grain structure, reducing tensile strength, ductility🇺🇸

Rehbinder effect is the reduction in the hardness and ductility of a material, particularly metals, by a surfactant film.

Any sufficiently large pile of treasure metastasizes into a dragon: a beast with lungs of molten gold, maintaining high temperatures so as to maximize the ductility of its metal body

‘Silver thread and golden needles’ is a terrible material choice, clearly you want silver as your needles for rigidity and gold thread for ductility.

You cant mend your broken heart because you suck at industrial design, Wanda.

what's that? your conductivity is "good"? you're shiny and lustrous? cute. how's your ductility

We are exploiting nuances of the relatively simple thermodynamics and chemical kinetics of what I've described here to make cheap steels that are 2 to 4 times stronger/tougher than the steel used in the Empire State or the Golden Gate. We're escaping the so-called "strength-ductility tradeoff" too.

Gavin Newsom, the Slippin' Jimmy McGill of governors - we all know he's a oil-slick, chameleonic opportunist... but, sometimes you really need an advocate of exactly Saul Goodman's caliber & moral... ductility... on your legal team.
Newsom: "Speaker Johnson -- his eloquence was elevated when he called to 'tar and feather' the governor of California. Very religious man. I guess that's the spirit. The word of the Lord."

By tuning carbon content (+cooling rate, alloy elements, etc), we can control the pearlite layer spacing, which controls strength and ductility. A carefully processed very fine pearlitic wire holds the record for strongest engineering alloy: about 7 gigapascal, 250% of the next strongest contender.

Going for hardness over ductility.

I remember reading something where the guy writing it was a material scientist and man did I fucking learn a ton about the ductility of various armour plates.

* shear strength
* ductility
* electrical resistance
* caloric value

Holy crap. If true this is huge.

I didn't see any mention of ductility or stress/shear strength though. That's important.

Also a near zero Poissons ratio for extra fun. Ductility kind of sucks though

"ductility" and "utility" shouldn't really be such similar words

Completely unrelated random clip from Wikipedia:

Gallium forms alloys with most metals. It readily diffuses into cracks or grain boundaries of some metals such as aluminium, aluminium–zinc alloys and steel, causing extreme loss of strength and ductility called liquid metal embrittlement.

Elon The Genius repudiates the existence of ductility, work hardening, stress factures, steel's crystalline structure, and several other areas of metallurgy.

But, of course, he knows.

Pfft. Ductility only matters if you use something more than once

Coherence first, Post Ductility later.

A newly developed aluminum alloy composition significantly increases as-built ductility in additive manufacturing, supporting lighter, more efficient components for automotive and aerospace applications. doi.org/g92kmm
A path to higher as-built ductility in printable aluminum alloys
Most aluminum alloys made through additive manufacturing (AM) have very limited as-built ductility, which may lead to the adoption of more expensive, heavier alternative materials in applications such as automotive and aerospace parts.

some goldsmithing photos

we melted in some heirloom gold from her grandma(s), so that's also special; part of her ring is literally made of other family rings

it was a really cool experience, you get to customize everything to your exact details, and everyone gushes when you say you made them
