#Duologies
Genuinely recommend 1st+2nd as like- one of the tightest JRPG duologies I've ever played. Cannot wait for them to announced a 3rd remake, but until then, I'm in no rush, there's too many Trails games, I'm pacing myself xD

Think Florescentia will be upcoming for me!!! I would start Anathema and normally I don’t read incomplete duologies but I do want to weigh the meh reviews against my own thoughts before book 2 releases next year!!!

I can think of some duologies, but the longer the series, the more issues come to mind. And its not like there are a huge amount of franchises that build up on each other.

I think Rachel Gillig has a wonderful gothic mind but when it comes to duologies, her second book never lives up to the first. I felt the same way with Two Twisted Crowns as well

overall, i do tend to view both of the games as one big game, it is definitely one of the best duologies out there in gaming, such a travesty what happened to Tango, and we'll never be able to have a third game to solve that cliffhang at the end of 2 lol

That’s so interesting because in both duologies I enjoyed the second more than the first!

Between Croc and Trails in the Sky, that makes two Switch 2 Edition duologies I will absolutely seek out the physical versions of.

Learning that these are a remake of the series' first entry incentivizes that even further for me.

Two Evil Eyes (1990)

I feel horror anthologies are better as duologies - hard to find 4 good stories & crammed nature kneecaps good stories

This film is proof & example of its limit

Romero improves M. Valdemar but feels flat. Argento is visually ambitious & sloppy w/ Black Cat

As a reader with over 100 ARCs still on my Netgalley shelf, nothing scares me more than hearing a series will have like 10 spinoffs. I've gotten on board with trilogies and duologies but 5+ books in the same universe is a big no for me. Too many authors I still need to read!

i say this not because i hate it (although i do) but because i believe we are all tired of it and hope the appetite for self-contained projects is increasing. plus, maybe we're also due for a future of loosened copyright, tasteful duologies, and experimental offshoots and concept albums

I decided to make a list of my favourite #book series. Turns out there's 90 of them! Mainly speculative fiction, but a few other genres as well.

I published my list on my blog: www.insanityworks.org/randomtangen...

What are your favourite book series? I'd love to know and add them to my list!
Favourite book series — Insanity Works
I love getting into a good book series so I thought I’d make a list of my favourites. Two things about this list: I adore some duologies (and I’ll list a few at the end) but a trilogy is the…

I feel like the saga was too big for one expansion and two small for three, but everybody likes trilogies more than duologies. Plus something something haranir have to be explained. 🤷‍♀️

Yes amazing! Since your list looks A LOT like my book shelf - another rec if it's not on your list already is the Crowns of Nyaxia series. Carissa Broadbent. First one is Serpent and the Wings of Night. They are done in duologies, the novella & side character book also so worth reading too!!

Maybe I’ll just re-read some novella duologies and series I enjoyed rather than take a risk on yet another interesting concept utterly ruined by unnecessary and ham-fisted romance.

Okay if you don't know: this is one of the funniest duologies of all time because the lead programmer self-inserted himself as the protagonist, and for the sequel he'd moved on so they used a look-alike and made him the single most pathetic man to have ever lived. The guy refuses to talk about it.

they're young adult fantasy, so they're definitely easy to get into. i really enjoy them, and it's 7 books in total. a series of 3, and two duologies. they take place in the same universe and have connections between them, but you don't have to read all of them to enjoy some of them

a £1 charity shop find turning out that good is the best feeling. did the darker turn near the end feel earned or kind of sudden? that's always the make or break for me with duologies

six scorched roses is a high bar to reach, but i really am loving it. i also think i prefer the way carissa writes her novellas to her duologies.

if you ever wanna see if we can shit together a good children of hurin film (duology maybe? most things are good as duologies) then like hmu i think wed vibe

Anyone else think fantasy duologies are the perfect length, or just me? 🖐️😳

Something about rainy fall days makes me crave atmospheric fae folklore fiction and moody witchy romantasies 🍂🎃☕
September 30, 2026 at 4:10 PM
I still enjoy trilogies, but I find that my patience for stories of that length--and definitely anything longer--has waned under the emotional stresses of... *waves at everything*

I'd love to see duologies become more common, and I'm glad to hear they're moving in that direction.
