Soft magnetic hysteresis in a dysprosium amide–alkene complex up to 100 kelvin - Nature
A dysprosium amide–alkene complex shows soft magnetic hysteresis loops up to 100 kelvin, arising from the high charge density of the amide ligands and the structural role of the pendant alkene.

Correction, neodymium isn't on the list (yet). These however are...

• Samarium
• Gadolinium
• Terbium
• Dysprosium
• Lutetium
• Scandium
• Yttrium

China completely controls the production of dysprosium, which is used in anything that works at high temperatures "No dysprosium, no thermal stability. No thermal stability, no functioning motor in your F-35 or your Mustang Mach-E."

Dysprosium and its compounds often have interesting magnetic properties. For example, Terfenol-D, an iron-terbium-dysprosium alloy, changes shape when exposed to magnetic fields at room temperature.

Jek leads our latest preprint in @chemrxiv.bsky.social with the @nfchilton.bsky.social group on a mixed axial dysprosium amide-cyclopentadienyl single-molecule magnet (SMMs). We find similar high-temperature soft hysteretic properties to dysprosium bis(amide) SMMs.

“ #China controls essentially the entire supply of #dysprosium, and no, there is no magical mine in Wyoming or Quebec waiting in the wings. If dysprosium doesn’t come out of China, it doesn’t come out at all. It’s the spinal cord of electrification, and right now China’s holding the vertebrae.”

the element dysprosium was so named from the greek word "dysprositos", meaning "hard to get", because it took dozens of attempts to first isolate it
im depressed, can you please tell me a fun fact to cheer me up
