Before you get snobbish about e-readers, remember that they allow large text for those with sight disabilities, alternate fonts for those with dyslexia, and can be laid down flat for those lacking mobility in their hands.

That last point is especially helpful for me right now.

Go e-readers!

that's right!

e-bikes replace *car* trips

they're the greatest climate mobility hack invented yet

governments should be giving them away
Interesting study from Germany on e-bikes and the modes they replace:

"43.1% of electric bicycle trips and 63.2% of electric bicycle mileage would have been undertaken using a car if no e-bike had been available, highlighting their substantial potential to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions"
Further, steeper, greener: Implications from an electric bicycle mode choice model
Electric bicycles are transforming the active mobility landscape, potentially increasing active mode uptake and delivering environmental and health benefits. This study examines electric bicycle mo...

People keep talking about e-bikes, e-trikes, e-scooters, and other power-assisted mobility like they are toys, shortcuts, or something to sneer at. But for a lot of people they are freedom machines. They turn impossible trips into possible ones. They turn pain into manageability, distance into

PS: Ich will das gar nicht gegeneinander ausspielen... aber irgendein Signal in Richtung ÖPNV/E-Mobility etc. wäre schon auch schön ("gerecht"?).

E-bikes are so liberating. All the convenience of a car in mobility + all the convenience of a bike in parking and access.

If someone is concerned about the risk to pedestrians from e-bikes, e-motos, and scooters, but doesn't support taking away space from cars to build safer micro-mobility infrastructure then I would question their commitment to safety
July 27, 2026 at 6:37 PM
I find this so infuriating for a couple of reasons.

First is that for adults, e-bikes are often car replacements!

Second is that e-bikes are about *mobility* and it shouldn't matter what level of exertion someone has, even if they're riding recreationally. There's so much ableism in this POV.
interesting to see conversations surrounding children/adults using e-bikes to get around not burning enough calories, what’s the point

like my dude how many calories are you packing on while eating drive through lunches in your rolling den?

Among earth humans, e-bikes are winning the mobility wars and it's not even remotely close.

Americans are a deep outlier.

the "missing middle" of city mobility is publicly run subsidized e-bikeshare, if anything
Waymo is all over NYC Climate Week, sponsoring a slew of events.

I just watched Adam Lenz, Waymo's sustainability head, field softball questions from Heatmap's CEO (nothing re: added VMT).

Waymo clearly hopes to piggyback on YIMBYism. Lenz described Waymo as the "missing middle" of city mobility.

People love to scream "whataboutism" when you point out that cars are still more dangerous than e-bikes/e-motos/e-scooters. But it's not whataboutism to properly contextualize the risk, especially when we are seeing a moral panic that is not commensurate with the threat posed by e-micro mobility.

This is a solid and even-handed article. I'm glad it makes 3 important points:

1. Many kids are riding high-speed e-motos and not e-bikes

2. The e-bike panic has the potential to hurt riders who depend on these bikes

3. Kids want to and deserve freedom of mobility without cars!

This thread is a perfect illustration of why e-bikes are an absolutely mobility gamechanger for so many people.

(NB: We need to forever bury the idea that e-bikes are "cheating")
I was approached by a lady outside the gym today while parking my bike. She was likely in her 70s. She had such great questions about the bike and then proceeded to tell me about her ebike.

She told me that she rode over 600 miles on it last year and was so proud of herself. She was so happy.

One of these is an oversized, elitist mobility vehicle. The other is an e-cargo bike. One tears up our local infrastructure and is a threat to people outside of it. The other weaves into the urban fabric, accomplishing a lot and asks for very little.

@paulbarter.bsky.social has noted that as countries develop, cities shift from being oriented around motorcycles to transit. Unfortunately NYC is backsliding: people are shifting to e-micro-mobility because transit options are poor, and with that sometimes comes death www.nytimes.com/2026/09/30/n...

Three points about E-scooters (& siblings):
🛴🛴🛴
E-mobility devices are here and are not going away;
E-mobility devices can improve urban mobility, affordability, & livability;
E-mobility devices are a novel safety challenge in our traditional transportation realm.

What do we do about this? 🧵

This is a must-read and hits on so many key issues related to e-bikes specifically and micro-mobility broadly.

Draconian e-bike laws like the one in New Jersey threaten the mobility and freedom of nondrivers, but our country refuses to consider them amid this intensifying moral panic (or ever).
The explosion of e-bikes, e-trikes and e-scooters is truly revolutionary...The joy and freedom of biking is intoxicating for everyone who has had the opportunity to try out life on two or three wheels with a little e-boost.
