what’s often ignored in the popular vs EC debates is that with a popular model (ftr i’d favour) campaigns would run much differently than the current electoral system. republicans would have a much easier pathway to making significant gains than dems due to dense blue population areas.

FTR Trump "won" both times because EC is not the popular vote. The EC exists to level the playing field between rural & urban America so POTUS isn't decided upon by a handful of metropolitan populations. Why would Trump claim the opposite is true? The EC was his only ace in the hole. Makes no sense.

ftr i’m pro popular vote over EC, but i really hope some that are preaching popular vote are doing it out of principle and not hindsight. a PV election would change campaign dynamics, and democrats would likely bleed meaningfully more in populated areas because there are just not many Duval counties
