#ECMO,
I keep having this vision of Mitch on an ECMO machine internally screaming because Scott Jenkins wont stop talking to him.

Since 1983, we’ve developed new vaccines for more diseases.

Since then, we also developed:
Antiretroviral therapy
Statins
First cancer immunotherapy
Laparoscopic surgery tools
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)

& more.

Haben gerade eine 11jährige mit Influenza an die ECMO gelegt.
Nur falls sich noch jemand impfen lassen möchte.

This is too weird. The senator’s health did not warrant a return to the U.S.” But she left after his heart attack. Maybe he was put on an ECMO and was stable? I don’t get it.

No way is someone on ECMO ever considered stable. And if you are on ECMO post CPR it’s from cardiac standstill.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today I am thankful for no ECMO and polygamy hair

As part of the @3wishesprogram.bsky.social, we took an ECMO patient outside for family time & sunshine therapy the day before life support was scheduled to be removed. Yes, ECMO. No, it wasn't easy. Yes, it took a village, but it wasn't impossible & meant the world to everyone (shared w/ consent)

Gonna try to tuck his ECMO under Trump's second-largest tie

A machine called ECMO can perform the work of the heart and lungs entirely outside the body. “ECMO is transforming medical care,” Clayton Dalton writes. “But it also complicates care when life inevitably begins to end.”
How ECMO Is Redefining Death
A medical technology can keep people alive when they otherwise would have died. Where will it lead?

And to treat blood clots

And in cardiopulmonary bypass circuits

And ECMO circuits

And dialysis

And to keep ports open

And in blood sample tubes
Heparin is just like an iPhone, except it's a bit more compact and you use it to prevent blood clots instead.
Your Michigan Medicine colleagues would appreciate if you relay the message that a basic medicine we use 1000x per day in the hospital, heparin, is also dependent on China, and people will die without it

I refuse to join Bluesky - I don’t want to become part of an ECMO chamber

My RN/BSN wife had transferred to COVID ICU due to the nursing shortage & was highly experienced with ventilators & ECMO, since she usually took care of heart & lung transplant patients. I remember the shortage of ventilators, utilizing ECMO when not available, but the lungs needed to be moving

Call that flavor ECMO Cooler

and there's no ECMO here so that's nice

I keep my ozempic manufacturing table next to my home ECMO machine.

Sad news today about the “father of ECMO” life support, Robert Bartlett of the University of Michigan Medical School.

Besides saving hundreds of thousands of lives through his care, research & leadership, he also championed our Life Sciences Orchestra. RIP.

Poor BC teen infected with bird flu had to be put on ECMO therapy to survive. Very serious case.
Report in NEJM describing the first critically ill adolescent with #H5N1 D1.1 (aka #BirdFlu) in North America.

A 13 yo rapidly progressed from mild symptoms to respiratory & renal failure. She survived thanks to IMV + ECMO + CRRT.

Scary stuff.

it's kind of sad that many of RFK Jr's biggest fans got COVID and choked to death on an ECMO while their families cried about the plandemic on facebook

I was in ECMO for three weeks when my new set of lungs arrived. I had 24-72 hours left to live when they arrived but with out ECMO I would have never lived long enough to receive them. Thank you for my gift of life Dr. Bartlett

Apropos of nothing, here’s a lady who gave birth while on ECMO for Covid
