China can build 55 million cars a year and buy 23 million. The 100% tariff keeps the surplus out of the US and does nothing about the fact that BYD now sets the price of an EV everywhere else. What the advantage is actually made of, what's being cut to get it, and what would close the gap:

The 100 percent tariff keeps BYD off American lots. It does nothing about the fact that the price of an electric car is now set in Shenzhen everywhere else on earth.

Stop thinking in binary answers: either this or that. Maybe our transportation solutions are not modeled after any existing system but are designed specifically for our unique challenges. Trains for distance travel will work most places, start there. Ecars will work most places do those too.

This has been true for years i.e. eBikes are doing more to #StopBurningStuff than eCars. But we need everything all at once in transport esp. in Ireland where our cars average 40% more Km than EU avg (and last I looked they could drive further than on this island). #Choices #SpeirGorm

As someone who loves electricity but feels meh about the internal combustion engine, ECars are car enough for me. Most of the time I prefer pedal power but EBikes are bike enough for me too.

We are not able to purchase the best and cheapest ecars in the world to save us millions in energy costs. All to benefit rich oil guys who donate big bucks to Trump.
The other day I said I wanted to buy an electric car from China. A number of people chastised me for not supporting unions. Call me a cynic, but I can't help but wonder if they posted their opinions on an IPhone.
