I encountered 202 UK bird species this year. Highlights included choughs on Anglesey; cranes at Lakenheath Fen; Caspian tern at Eccup reservoir; RL buzzard in Rosedale; firecrest at Lynford Arboretum (that led me a merry dance); stone-curlews and a singing woodlark at Cavenham Heath. #UKbirding
Did not expect to see a tawny owl or hear a quail at my local patch this morning, but that is the joy of birding! 28 other species, including singing yellowhammers and swallows.

Quick walk to Eccup reservoir (Leeds) early this morning. A few teal and widgeon, distant little egret, lilting bullfinches, grey heron at a golf flag, pair of goldcrests flitting around a conifer. #birds

Gave up after five minutes of birdwatching at Eccup Reservoir this morning due to loud gunshots. (Not sure what was being shot…) Went to the more peaceful Adel Dam instead and saw a kingfisher.

Eccup reservoir and nearby farmland this morning. 35 species. Highlights: tree sparrow, grey wagtail, 4 fieldfare, 2 mistle thrush, 33 pink-footed geese flying east. Heard a nice snatch of mistle thrush song — a herald of spring on a wintry day. #UKbirding
