We have come a long way since the police raid on the Stonewall Inn Pub in New York, on 28 June 1969 - marking the first time LGBTQIA+ people fought back against discrimination, but we still have a long way to go to ensure equal rights for all. ✊ Nowhere in #Europe is this more evident than #Poland, with the country ranked last in the #EU for LGBTQIA+ rights by @ILGA-Europe for the 5th time in 2024. The #EEANorwayGrants Active Citizens Fund have this funding period supported over 2800 civil society projects empowering those who stand up for democracy, human rights and our liberties. Two of these are the Rainbow family Areas and Equality March-projects in Poland. The All Families Are Equal project aims to reduce discrimination against members of the LGBTQI + community in Croatia by ensuring the institutional conditions and social acceptance of fostering in LGBTQI + families. It was organised by Open Media Group, Rainbow Families Croatia and Dikkedokken Film Fellowship and funded by the Active Citizens Fund under the EEA and Norway Grants 2014-2021.

At a conference in Warsaw 24 April, the development of the 2021-2028 EEA and Norway Grants programmes in Poland started, as the first in a series of 15 beneficiary countries. The conference was hosted in collaboration with the Polish Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy and supported by the Norwegian Embassy in Warsaw, and brought together Polish public entities, Donor State partners, and International Partner Organisations to discuss the development of the 2021-2028 programmes. The event marked the beginning of the development of eight programmes agreed upon in the Memoranda of Understanding between Poland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, that were signed on 23 April. Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have signed new Memoranda of Understanding with Poland under the EEA and Norway Grants 2021-2028. The cooperation agreements with Poland are the first of a series of MoUs to be signed with the 15 beneficiary countries.
