But championed war & revolution as valid means of "national rebirth" and said "Emancipation is the demand of civilization."

Did at least call out Lincoln for wanting to "preserve the Union" over abolition.

Excerpt from Bob Avakian’s 2012 talk “REVOLUTION—Nothing Less!”

“Internationalism: the whole world comes first. The goal is the emancipation of all humanity, not the strengthening of ‘our country’ to be the most powerful country in the world.”

[...] MARKET COMMUNISTS emphasize the family value in the singular, in their generational emancipation:
This is merely counter-politics,
but universalist ETHICS is more.

Were the slave revolts in the south moral? It's irrelevant They acted because their conditions demanded such actions as no other means of emancipation existed. Liberals like to see actions as individual events without context. Calling armed resistance groups mere 'extremists' or even 'terrorists'...

That’s an interesting point! I didn’t think there’d be that many Catholics up here pre emancipation, but there must have been a decent pocket. Perhaps due to its role as a port?

Built 1829, so contemporaneous to Emancipation I guess…

Listened to Prince's 3121. I did not like it like people did at the time at least. His '90s work gets dinged for being more self-indulgent than actually fun and I usually don't agree with that (I love Emancipation in full, for instance). Here it did feel a bit pandering/ eclectic for its own sake.

Can't help but also see a description of Effective Altruists written in 1940, but about the Spartacists:

If you want to be politically emancipated without emancipating yourselves humanly, the incompleteness and the contradiction lies not only in you, it lies in the nature and the category of political emancipation.

On the contrary, we say to them: Because you can be politically emancipated without completely and consistently renouncing Judaism, political emancipation itself is not human emancipation.

The limit of political emancipation is immediately apparent in the fact that the state can free itself from a restriction without man being really free from this restriction, that the state can be a free state without man being a free man.

The political emancipation of the Jew, the Christian, and, in general, of religious man, is the emancipation of the state from Judaism, from Christianity, from religion in general.

Explain legal emancipation then.

Does the UN statement ban marriage at 17? 16 even?

Don’t think so.

Just came back from a short tour of the South to see a few friends. Culminating with a spectacular Iron Maiden concert. A much needed short little break.
