Jordan’s Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) has issued 200 approvals for the installation and grid connection of renewable energy systems under the country’s revised regulatory framework. The approvals were granted by a newly formed committee comprising representatives from Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, EMRC, the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), and the country’s three electricity distribution companies. The first 200 approvals cover several consumer categories, including residential installations and applications submitted by military personnel. EMRC said the committee has recently begun reviewing applications from across Jordan to determine whether they meet the technical and administrative requirements for connection. The approvals follow the entry into force of Jordan’s amended Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Law and changes to the rules governing the connection of renewable energy installations to the electricity system. The revised framework is intended to accommodate continued demand for distributed renewables while managing available grid capacity. Jordan, on the other hand, has experienced significant growth in behind-the-meter solar, particularly among residential, commercial and industrial electricity consumers in recent years.
