Unlike the large, consistent price spikes in ERCOT in 2023, "power prices this summer were low and stable—almost boring. The difference: vastly more solar and battery storage in the Lone Star State." - @ieefa-northamerica.bsky.social's Dennis Wamsted and Seth Feaster: ieefa.org/resources/de... 🔌💡

Like ERCOT does this with batteries and it’s absolutely crazy how much capacity they’ve unlocked on their rinky dink grid

Good. It's time for Abbott to lose.

He should have lost last time after people died in the snowstorm and the ERCOT power failure in February 2021. I still don't understand how he won. He can roll into the sunset.

ERCOT: the ADER pilot grew from 8 MW of discharge capacity in June 2025 to 171 MW in September 2026, mostly residential batteries. One player, Base Power, holds about 70% of it. Phase 4, up for a Board vote on December 7, would add a storage-only option with no ERCOT-wide cap.

How about Texas. 22% of the electricity in the ERCOT grid comes from wind farms.

ERCOT works well for flexible loads that can curtail during price spikes. Continuous compute for AI was always going to test the physical limits of that grid.

Yesterday's Texas grid ⚡: Heavy reliance on fossil fuels! 🏭 Total load was 1,275,810 MW, with 60.4% coming from “dirty” sources (770,336 MW). Carbon-free energy accounted for 41% (522,568 MW). Batteries drew down -17,093 MW. 😬 Let's shift towards cleaner power! ☀️ #ERCOT #TexasGrid #RenewableEnergy

No Ercot just double accounts the batteries so they can operate super economically

Grid 2 eliminates ramp constraints by reliably clearing the market one minute ahead

Whatever the irradiance or local wind conditions over the next minute, grid operators have that minute to figure it out

Data centers do more than run apps. They help keep local power grids stable. Many build large utility battery systems that supply power back to regional grids like ERCOT during extreme heat or cold snaps, helping prevent neighborhood blackouts.

Texas grid yesterday: ⚡️1.36M MW total load! ☀️💨 Huge win for clean energy – carbon-free sources made up 55.1%! 🔋 Batteries drew down ~2.98M MW. Let's keep that green energy growing! 🌱 #ERCOT #RenewableEnergy #TexasPower

that’s really just a function of load/capacity balances among/between grid interconnections though, not really competition (with ERCOT somewhat excepted I guess)

Between 2023 and 2026, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT)'s installed solar capacity almost doubled. This increase allowed solar to supply 33% of ERCOT's daily peak demand in August this year, helping to avoid volatile gas and coal prices.
