I think we're all prone to overreact to things like this; being the ranking minority member of a House cmte is, after all, relevant but not exactly earthshaking. Despite that, it's hard to look at the death grip these ancient failures have on the party and read it differently than this.
Literally the only thing octogenarian Dems want is to make sure their legacy isn’t tarnished by the colossal weight of their long-term failures which ushered in a New Fascist era, and the only way they can think of doing that is to stay in power so they can shape the narrative during the collapse.
