In the midst of heartbreaking wildfire footage, here is some good news. Everyone should know about Earthwatch Europe’s Tiny Forest project. 150 tiny forests have been planted in the UK already and they’re aiming for 500 by 2030. earthwatch.org.uk/program/tiny...

🌿A new community food garden was created at Donnington Townsend Square, led by Earthwatch Europe and the Donnington Tenants and Residents Association. Members of the Donnington 50+ Group have committed to maintaining the planters, including a herb bed for the Community Café at Donnington Doorstep.🥦

If you've always wished you were a field scientist, or want to fund science as an f-u to budget cuts, or just like sharks...

Earthwatch just posted dates for trips tagging sharks in Belize. I went in 2019. Their results have real impact on conservation. And the lead scientist is a Wingspan fan!

The River Cherwell is already polluted with metals and chemicals – but from road run-off rather than the Kidlington fly-tip, according to a new study. Oxford-based Earthwatch Europe found that the illegal landfill is “not currently a major source of metal or chemical pollution to the river”.

The research was led by Imperial's Professor Leon Barron with Dr @helenarappwright.bsky.social and Earthwatch Europe's Dr Sasha Woods, Laura Bannatyne, Steven Loiselle and Kevin Simmonds.

Earthwatch also enrolled 5000 citizen scientists with over a thousand sampling kits to test the UK’s waterways.
