#OnThisDay 135 years ago the Easingwold branch line formally opened, public opening was two days later. This image at Easingwold could easily be from the Victorian era but is in fact from 1946, two years before passenger services ceased. Walter Dendy buff.ly/Ash9tYq

I know that this is mostly just an "English place name" problem, but he looks so much like that he makes "Wetherby and Easingwold" sound fake

You see this and wonder why it would be found in a hamlet that even today as a population of less than one hundred. Found at Flawith near Easingwold, a medieval lead-alloy papal bulla (seal on a Papal bull) of Pope Celestine III who reigned from 1191-1198. The obverse of the bulla is

Absolutely chuffed to find a patch-first Lesser Whitethroat in the Easingwold fields this afternoon, along with Common Whitethroats, a single swallow, topped off with a Holly Blue, dozens of Orange-tips and beautiful Star of Bethlehems

The present church of All Saints in the village of Brandsby near Easingwold was commissioned by Frances Cholmeley of Brandsby Hall, and designed by Thomas Atkinson, who also designed the hall. The building was completed in 1770. Restored in 1905, a baptistry, porch and vestry were added

Nice to be back on the Yorkshire #slowways today. This one from Easingwold to Shipton was excellent.

There's a blast from the past. The Easingwold co-op manager used to go mental at us all reading those mags while doing bugger all else on the tobacco Kiosk for £3.60 an hour.
This was around the peak Weebls Stuff days.

That's not a real person, surely? That's "Tory MP but make it extra Wodehouse" in an AI image generator. That's "Boy" Mulcaster from Brideshead Revisited with a mobile phone.

Quite a bit to be honest. Penzance - Lostwithiel, Chepstow - Newport, Wrexham to Bakewell, Stocksbridge to Easingwold, Leyburn to Kendal, Coniston to Penrith. I'd better get on with it! Inspired by other #slowways challenges though.

A modest 3-bed semi is pretty typical for families with two kids, especially while they're still at primary school.

Which of these houses do you think a typical couple with two small children are more likely to buy? And which do you think is more likely to get built?

I think the new Wetherby & Easingwold is a bit of an abomination. Contains Leeds fringes, ultra-rural bits of the far ends of the Vale of York, lots of places that have never had any link and look to different cities. Cuts across the West and North Yorkshire border, two strategic mayoralties, etc.
