#Echosec
Funny thing is I still know basically nothing about Flashpoint, Echosec or how Bellingcat does investigations post-2015. Wasn't relevant to the topic of "can I trust Matt Taibbi".

End of spot check―I usually go deeper, but Matt didn't offer much to check. I wonder who picks the articles on Cicero.

Poulson (whose article is ~5mo older than Taibbi's) adds details and links to the same Flashpoint PDF article as Taibbi did, and makes it clear that the note about the article being "originally published on echosec. net in 2015" was in the PDF by the time Taibbi saw it. So yeah,

about *how* it used Echosec to find out about "a Russian fighting in Ukraine" (cool―so few people talk about investigative methods). Second result is the same Jack Poulson on the same topic, this time saying that Echosec was "insanely expensive" in 2015 (not Flashpoint, contradicting Taibbi).

phrases like "Echosec, Flashpoint’s Open-Source Intelligence Solution" must have been added in 2022/2023. It appears like Bellingcat liked Echosec and trained people on it, didn't like Flashpoint for its high cost, and then several years later, Flashpoint bought some rights in relation to Echosec.
