#Ecoengineering increases species diversity by increasing habitat patchiness and complexity, this is well documented. Unfortunately this is linked to increasing #invasivespecies diversity in several
Eco-engoneered systems. 1/3

Super cool use of metabolic models of reconstituted communities and inulin in a #synbiotic intervention to predict engraftment of specific strains in a clinical trial.

This is where #microbialEcology #ecoengineering should be going!

⚠️ Adding “complexity” isn’t a free lunch.

Stability hinges on:
👑 Dominant species
🦑 Consumer interactions
🌡️ Stress gradient context

🌍 For restoration & eco-engineering: design with these pathways in mind—test, don’t assume.

Not the geese's fault that humans, ecoengineering for our own pleasure, destroy so many natural habitats & create tempting artificial ones elsewhere. Like humans, birds immigrate for a reason.

That said, you have an interesting account, following. :)

Five ecoengineering wildlife occupancy types. They follow a simple gradient, from short visits through to permanent residence. The aim is to make sure our crafted interventions offer the right resources for every need and lifecycle stage across the five occupancy types we’ve identified.

Thanks to the EA for inviting me to deliver CPD at their office via an @artecology-iw.bsky.social CoCreate workshop. An afternoon of hands on making, discussion, and Q&A exploring ecoengineering. Handcrafted Nature Inclusive Designs made for wildlife. Real work feeding directly into interventions.
