INTRO: I'm a Victorian literature scholar and ecocritic. Currently working on a book about lawns. I write (mostly funny) essays and host a podcast interviewing other essayists. (Hit me up! I'm always looking for guests.) I play the piano, I bake, I read. Middlemarch 4-eva.

I left academia because I needed control over where I lived. I needed to be able to find a place, dig in, put down roots. (Especially as an ecocritic/fiction/nonfiction writer.)

(after doing this for a long time, it's hard to convince my colleagues that I'm not really interested in animals as such, nor am I really an ecocritic. If I'm anything, I do work in posthumanism)

Could the animal control officer BE Donna Haraway? She's got that agility-training-lady vibe, and is kind of brisk and no-nonsense ... a famous ecocritic who Threw It All In?

"Given his intimate connection to the land and career as an ecocritic turned humorist, Branch is something like John Muir meets Jon Stewart."

as an ecocritic i should probably support urban compost programs, but, like, routine pesticide spraying is really not good! also, people's kids and pets might touch the sprayed ground, and i'm guessing the results aren't great

tired: Bruce Springsteen is a patriot

wired: Bruce Springsteen writes about the trend of empires towards collapse and the feelings produced by living in said empire, which are only echoes of that which we can’t get back, meaning that Bruce Springsteen is basically an ecocritic

We should get a thread going!
This is mine. I haven’t actually used it in my PhD but Iovino’s way of looking at texts and the world changed my thinking so much www.bloomsbury.com/uk/ecocritic...

Did someone put me in a starter pack or something? Where are all these #ecocritic and #environmentalhumanities followers coming from?

Also, I adore you all and am so delighted to find all the environmental scholars; I'm the only one at my college, and sometimes, I just get lonely. 😭
