today's visit to Elafonissi coincided with some ace "vismig" migration: tired Roller & Collared Flycatcher on the rocks, 2 Nightjars, 4 Golden Orioles "in-off", Turtle Doves, 6 Purple Herons & more

+ Colchicum rechingeri, it's only European outposts being a handful of western Crete beaches

Elafonissi is a small, uninhabited island and protected nature reserve located on the southwestern coast of Crete, Greece, connected to the mainland by a shallow, walkable lagoon. The sand's unique pink hue is caused by the accumulation and crushing of millions of tiny red and pink shells from microscopic marine organisms called Foraminifera, which live in the nearby seagrass meadows.

Prije 8 g sam prvi puta bila na Kreti (FB memories). I odusevila se. Plaze, more, mjesta, ljudi, hrana, vino. Sve kako zelim. Poslije toga jos 4 puta. Da nije bilo pandemije, bilo bi vise. Elafonissi, jedna je od najljepsih plaza na svijetu. Roza pijesak. Plavetnilo. Kad vidis i ostanes bez daha.

Who else loves off-peak travel? We spent the last week of the season (end of October) in Crete before the tourism industry shuts down for winter. And it was sunny, relaxed, without any crowds. Even the famous Elafonissi beach. #visitcrete #visitgreece

Ok allora nel 2024 scrissi che le spiagge di Creta erano tutte bellissime e con le loro peculiarità, ma che SECONDO ME la Sardegna gli cagava in testa. Stavolta sono finalmente riuscito ad andare nelle pluririnomate spiagge cretesi della costa ovest, Kedrodasos, Elafonissi e Balos, e il risultato ⬇️
