I was conflicted because #cuprite is so neat but imo #quartz deserves it more. Useful, everywhere, and beautiful in so many different forms. Plus I love crystals with inclusions :)

And since quartz & cuprite can form together a vote for quartz kinda lets both win!

Today's ROTD ⚒️ 🧪 is Green Tourmaline in maitrix.
This is lithium-tourmaline elbaite. Tourmaline is distinguished by its three-sided prisms; no other common mineral has three sides.
Prisms faces often have heavy vertical striations that produce a rounded triangular effect. Granite matrix pictured.
Made of the same material as Mini countertops. The matrix is fairly boring background to the tourmaline. This is blue green tourmaline and tourmaline can pick out more than a dozen points of blue green on the face of the piece. Rotate it 90° left. You can tell this is a quite rough piece. Roughly square shaped with one of the corners rounded down. You can see the granite on the outside as well as some dirt covering the brightly colored tourmaline crystals. Flip to the reverse side. It's much more clean and you can see the varied colors shifting from a cobalt blue to light green. That really doesn't come across in a photograph. This piece is loaded with small tourmaline crystals ranging from a 10th of an inch to an eighth of an inch long. Some of them are quite thick comparatively A close up of the rounded edge. You can see that this particular granted has some iron oxidation as well as some of the soil covering still on it. The view of the crystals is more of a top down here where you can see some of the wider pieces down the center.
