to me the "electric vehicles will not solve the fundamental problem of Cars and Car Dependency" was really driven (hah) home for me yesterday given that the car that hit me while i was on my bike was a hyundai ioniq 5.

One of the ugliest vehicles ever built.

Still, despite his politics, I give Musk credit for trying to build electric vehicles en masse in the U.S. unfortunately we seem to be falling behind the rest of the world.

Fun waking up today to learn that I'm the latest independent journalist whose reporting the New York Times has largely copied with no credit and no link.

Very much enjoyed this discussion with @erinsikorsky.bsky.social and my former DOD colleague Greg Pollock with the @councilonstrategicrisks.org on electric vehicles as defense technologies, building on arguments we've spun out in a series of publications which I'll link in the thread.

Saw a CBC headline about Quebec's grid being "strained by data centers and ELECTRIC VEHICLES"

Yes, CBC chose to lump EVs and data centers together.

Electricity usage for electric cars is not in the same stratosphere as data centers. EVs breaking the grid has long been BS peddled by Big Oil.

New official data show that Norway's greenhouse gas emissions from passenger cars have halved since their peak in 2015. This is driven by a combination of biofuels and electric vehicles.

@envi.europarl.europa.eu, @tran.europarl.europa.eu, and @imco.europarl.europa.eu want to improve the rules governing the EU automotive industry:

You don’t think people would buy $20,000 electric vehicles if they could? Or small electric trucks that none of the US automakers make?
