A rare "superbloom" is occurring in Death Valley National Park, the best in a decade, transforming the desert with carpets of gold, purple, and white flowers. Driven by record winter rainfall, the bloom which peaked in low elevations in March, will move to higher elevations through June.

Every basin has below-normal snowpack. Some have melted out almost entirely. That's not unheard of for low elevations in mid-March, but what highly unusual is the lack of snow at middle and high elevations across such a broad region. Winters like are becoming increasingly common.

2 - All 114 city water supply tanks were fully stocked pre-fire.
3 - A 15-hour surge at four times normal demand reduced water pressure.
4 - High demand at lower elevations slowed refilling tanks at higher elevations.

Our #wildhorse #sanctuary in Oregon is vast at over 9,000 acres. It covers a lot of land at different elevations reaching a peak at close to 5,000 feet up above Sheep's Rock. We finally got some of the snow we have been hoping for all winter.

These are one of the less common hummingbirds here, as they are usually found at higher elevations. They will come down during wet, cold weather.

Our friend the California Toad is a subspecies of the Western Toad who lives throughout California and northern Baja California! They are nocturnal at lower elevations and diurnal at higher elevations! They will also bury themselves to hibernate during cold weather! (photo by Jacob socal_angling)
