this is probably my second biggest issue with the PJ films after the erasure of Celebrían/butchering of Elrond as a character

when we’re talking about adaptations preserving the “spirit of tolkien”, completely removing the scouring of the shire from the movies is a drastic thematic change that seriously effects the viewer’s ability to understand tolkien’s message
